Parks Allgood Presents the New Hope Initiative for Kenya
February 18, 2015

Several weeks ago third grade student, Parks Allgood, approached Trinity’s Headmaster, Stan Couey, with an idea about partnering with her Aunt Lauren to raise money for women living in Kibera, Kenya.

Lauren Allgood currently lives in Nairobi, Kenya and works for a Christian charity called New Hope Initiative.  One of the projects she works with is called Project Biashara.  Biashara is the Swahili word for “business”.  Their mission is to give jobs to women living in Kibera so they can care for their families. Women learn to make beaded jewelry, painted cards and other hand-crafted items.  With the help of New Hope Initiative, these items are sold through out the world.

After hearing about the struggles of the women in Kenya, Parks wanted to create her own fundraiser by bringing their products to TrinityChristianSchool.   When Lauren and the women heard about Parks’ desire to do a fundraiser, they decided to make a bracelet just for the Trinity students and families.  They also have designed a beaded bookmark with an elephant and the colors of the Kenyan flag.  Both items as well as other products are available for purchase.  With the purchase of these items you are helping these women support their families.  All proceeds go directly to them.  Remember, “To help a woman is to help a family.”
