Middle School Football FInishes with Perfect Record
October 28, 2013
The Trinity Middle School entered their final game of the season against power house Edmond Burke Academy with a quest to be perfect, a perfect 8 and 0.   But two weeks ago their focused was changed from themselves to their teammate Number 10 Walker Payne.   Walker suffered a severely broken leg at practice which required him to be transported to Egleston Hospital in Atlanta for surgery.    Walker was able to return to the sidelines for the final game of the season and was named one of the captains .  The team had a new mission, "WIN FOR 10".

The start of the game would be a reflection of how the entire game would go.  Back and forth with seven lead changes for an instant classic and nail biter to the final horn.  Gabriel Meadow connected to Jack Pharis for a 48 yard touchdown pass.  The 2 pt conversion failed. After both teams turned the ball over EBA answered with 65 yard run with the 2 pt conversion putting EBA up 8 to 6 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Late in the 2nd quarter Gabriel Meadows capped of long drive with a 20 yard run extra point failed giving the crusaders what seemed to be the lead 12 to 8 going into half time.  But EBA threw a 35 yard touchdown pass into the end zone as the buzzer sounded to end the half giving them 16 to 20 lead.  "It was a perfect pass.  You could not have drawn a line from the quarterbacks hand to the receiver any better.   We had three defenders on him with perfect position", said defensive coordinator, Steve Alligood.

After TCS punted it first possession to start the second half EBA took their first drive eating up 75 yards and the entire 3rd quarter only to have  the Trinity defense stop them on the 5 yard line.   Two plays later Trinity's Gabriel meadows scored on a 94 yard touchdown run.  J B Gay connected to Blake Purvius for the 2pt conversion to give TCS the lead back 20 to 16. The lead would be very short lived,  On the ensuing kickoff EBA returned the kick 75 yards for a touchdown giving them the lead back 20 to 22.

With 6:03 to go in the game Trinity began a drive that would eat up most of the fourth quarter.   Gabriel Meadows had been the go to man all season but he was being doubled teamed so offensive coordinator Mike Kirby told his squad, "this is it guys, its yours go get it, we are fixing to play smash mouth football.  We either win it or lose it right hear."   Fullback Whit Mason as though putting his team on his shoulder behind his offensive line pounded the ball six times up the middle for 32 yards.  Mason finally punched it in from 2 yards and also converted the two point conversion making the score 28 to 22 with :46 seconds to go.

With the lead having changed hands seven times anything could happen.  Once again as EBA did at the end of the first half they attempted a long pass but this time Jake Walker came up with an interception to secure the game, the perfect season and the "WIN FOR 10".

Leading the defensive charge was Whit Mason with 6 tackles 5 of the tackles forced fumbles.  He also recovered a fumble.   William Gay and Griffin Hill each had 5 tackles while Gideon Meadows added 4 tackles and Jake Walker had an interception.

The offensive leaders were Gabriel  Meadows with 139 yards on 11 carries one touchdown and Whit Mason 81 yards on 15 carries a touchdown and a 2pt conversion.   Jack Pharis touchdown pass reception from Gabriel Meadows.

"This season has been one of the most rewarding and successful seasons ever because of the great kids and parents on this team.  I believe that this group of kids will continue to find favor in the eyes of our God as they continue to work hard and give Him the Glory for whatever results come their way!", Head Coach David Fennel concluded.
